2019 Year of the Sunshine

Cruise from Charleston, S.C.
Charleston has certainly won our hearts as our personal favorite departure port.
From its early American history to the southern hospitality charm with so much more in between, we found it to be a great compromise for us. See, we generally look for a more Southern start to our cruise when we travel off peak and Charleston, South Carolina is a mid point that we can still do as a drive rather than all the way into Florida.
A few tips- stay pre cruise a day or two in Mt. Pleasant. Do talk a walk by the harbor- we often see dolphins there. Take in some history if you can spare the time - Ft. Sumter and if I can suggest a stroll through a church or two.
Charleston has been a departure port for several years for short Bahamas cruises for Carnival' s fantasy class ships. While we love us the family feel of the Fantasy class ship, I can't help but share how excited we personally are to welcome the Carnival Sunshine to Charleston as its home port in May 2019.
The Sunshine has become a family favorite with a little bit for every age (sport's square and the red frog pub being the absolute icing on the cake).

Carnival Dream
Day one embarkation
Once you get past the crowded entry way (something needs to be done about the people exiting waiting for rides crowding the entrance), check in was so smooth!
We were shocked.
We were checked in at the Port of New Orleans faster than we have been at smaller ports.
They need to train other port employees!
Day two
Weather is perfect as we head to our first island (Jamaica). Perfect chance to chill and enjoy the balcony view. No rushed feel to this day.
Day three Dunn's River Falls is a must do if you go to Ocho Rios
Day 4 Grand Cayman- beautiful seven mile beach
DAY 5 Cozumel-at the advise of a friend, we spent our time ashore at Paradise Beach Club
DAYS 6and 7 Much needed relaxing sea days and head back home. Sadly, the return trip had cooler weather. Don't miss the seaside bbq for your sea day lunch!
Thanks for reading our notes from our cruise out of New Orleans.
